Arts! Oglethorpe is thrilled to announce our Summer 2025 show: Shrek The Musical!
The performances are scheduled for June 20–22 and June 26–28, 2025.
About This Show
Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek The Musical is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure, featuring all new songs from Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie; Caroline, or Change) and a sidesplitting book by David Lindsay-Abaire. Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage and proves there’s more to the story than meets the ears.
“Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek….” And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand… and his name is Shrek.
Shrek presents a treasure trove of creative opportunities, including costumes, sets, puppets (there is a fire-breathing dragon after all) and more! Irreverently fun for the whole family, Shrek proves that beauty is truly in the eye of the ogre.

NOTE FOR PARENTS: Though it’s thoroughly entertaining, there is some language and innuendo in SHREK THE MUSICAL that parents may not find appropriate for their younger viewers. Pre-teens and younger children should only attend at their parents’ discretion.
Auditions
Auditions will be held at the historic Crawford School on Saturday, April 19, 2025 from 4:30–7:30.
There is no cost to audition or participate; instead, cast members are asked to sell one advertisement each for our program. Costuming is provided, but cast members may be asked to provide specific shoes or undergarments.
Auditions will consist of reading(s) from the sides below. It is not necessary to memorize the audition material. If you are auditioning for multiple roles, focus on the TWO that you would like us to see most.
You will also need to prepare one of the following songs from the show.
- Male vocals: When Words Fail
- Female vocals: Morning Person
Rehearsal Information
Rehearsals begin the week of May 12th. Rehearsals will be held Mondays to Thursdays, 6:00pm–9:00pm AS SCHEDULED. Not everyone will be called for every rehearsal.
All actors must be available the entire week of June 16–19 for Tech and Dress rehearsals. Be sure to check your calendars!
